ONLINE ACCOUNT MAINTENANCE SECURITY TIPS

Green Dot works hard to ensure that your data is secure. Here are some tips that can help you make your online account maintenance experience as secure as possible.

Ignore, Report and Delete Suspicious/Unsolicited Emails (Phishing)

Phishing is an attempt by criminals to acquire your personal information by sending emails that are intended to look like they are from a legitimate financial institution. Green Dot is actively working to prevent phishing attacks but you should always be suspicious of unsolicited emails. Green Dot will never ask for your personal information, account details or login credentials through email. It's best to ignore and delete all questionable emails.

There are fraudsters who will send emails representing a financial institution asking the recipients to click on a link that connects them to a webpage that is designed to look like their financial institution's page. These fraudulent pages will collect User IDs, account numbers, social security numbers or passwords. If you click on a link from within an email always verify that the site you have been taken to is for the financial institution you intended. Green Dot uses extended validation certificates so that you can always verify that you are on a legitimate Green Dot site. Simply look for 'Green Dot Corporation' in a green box near the web address line of your browser. If you see the green box then you know you are on the correct site.

If you receive a suspicious email that represents itself as coming from Green Dot, please bring it to our attention by forwarding it to fraud@mygreendot.com.

Make Sure You Have a Secure Connection

Before submitting any login information or any private data, make sure that your browser has a secure connection. The majority of Internet browsers show a padlock icon padlock on their screens. The lock icon helps you to determine that the online security is working.

Create Passwords That Are Hard to Guess

When creating a password, don't create a password that is easy to guess. Don't use numbers or words that are easy for other people to guess (including birthdays, zip codes, names, brands). Make the password at least 6 characters long and use a combination of letters and numbers. It is best to use a different password for each of your online accounts. You should also consider changing your password periodically.

Never Share Your Account Information

You should never share your account or login information with anyone.

Log Out After You Are Done with Your Account Maintenance Session

Don't forget to log out from your online account maintenance session, especially if you are using a publicly shared or accessible computer. The logout button is located in the upper right-hand corner of the Green Dot's online account maintenance screens.

Anti-Virus and Anti Spyware

Keep your personal computer up-to-date with the latest anti-virus software and anti-spyware programs. Also, keep your computer updated to the latest operating system releases. Periodically check for Microsoft Windows or Apple Mac OS updates.
